Topic: “Leading with Emotional Agility for HR Leaders”

What separates successful HR leaders from the not so successful ones is their emotional agility. Emotional agility is fast becoming a common concept as the second generation of emotional intelligence (EQ) research is unfolding. Emotional agility is when a leader scans the environmental cues to know what emotional tenor is needed by others and then acts in alignment with his/her personal values.

When HR leaders are emotionally agile, they are using the space between situation and response to listen more deeply and to be more mindful of how they are thinking and feeling.  They become more curious in their learning from others. When ready to act, they lead responsively to the values that are most important to them and their organization. This agility helps them be better connected to the goals and objectives of the business and to the people in it. Studies have shown that emotional agility can help people alleviate stress, reduce errors, become more innovative, and improve performance.

 Learning Objectives:

  • Identify the three steps to Emotional Agility
  • Understand five strategies to improve your emotional agility in ever changing organizational life.
  • Understand the benefit of emotional agility training to other leaders and managers

Using case examples in a workshop setting, we challenge attendees to develop emotional agile responses to real world HR problems. Participants will identify behaviors that demonstrate strong EQ agility and identify actions they can take to help themselves and their organizations. Jim uses small and large group exercises to bring learning into action, always with candor, humor and a deep respect for organizational challenges.
