The Greater Merrimack Valley Human Resources Association (GMVHRA) is the leading organization in the Greater Merrimack Valley area of northeast Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire supporting human resource professionals and all individuals managing employees.

GMVHRA provides its members with the following benefits:

  • Opportunities for networking with other HR professionals to discuss issues of mutual importance
  • Re-certification credits, including opportunities to obtain up to 14 HRCI re-certification credits per year.  This amounts to 42 of a certified professional’s required 60 credits every 3 years
  • Workshops on key HR topics, continuing education and ongoing professional development
  • Leadership opportunities

As a non-profit association,GMVHRA is staffed by an all-volunteer board and other dedicated volunteer members who are committed to helping human resource professionals lead, advance and influence the management of human resources and its impact on organizational success.

GMVHRA had its roots in the early 1990s as The Human Resources Network of the Greater Salem (NH) Chamber of Commerce.  In 2002, under the leadership of Dan Griffiths, the organization affiliated with the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and adopted the name Greater Merrimack Valley Human Resources Association (GMVHRA).

SHRM is the leading voice of the human resource profession, serving as the largest HR membership organization devoted to human resources management. SHRM provides education and information services, government and media representation to more than 275,000 professional and student members worldwide.

Today, GMVHRA is comprised of professionals employed in various human resource-related functions in over 100 private sector, public sector and non-profit organizations. GMVHRA is the largest of the NH chapters.

Our meetings are held September through June, on the first Thursday of each month from 8:00 a.m. to 10:30a.m..  Additionally, GMVHRA hosts an annual employment law update that is attended by close to 100 HR professionals.  GMVHRA also occasionally offers additional half-day and full-day programs.

Last year's programs earned our members 15 HRCI Re-certification Credits, including 4 Strategic Credits, all included in the membership dues.

In addition to the quality programming offered by GMVHRA, we are also very proud of our Workforce Readiness Committee.  Our volunteers are consistently invited back to Salem High School to provide programs on resume preparation and interview behaviors (do’s and don’ts), so that the students will have a better understanding of what is expected and acceptable when striving to join the workforce.

Our Wellness Committee provides us with monthly wellness tips for our website and also provides an annual wellness event, usually including some very healthy snacks (with the recipes) and health screenings.
